A current undergraduate student at the University of Delaware studying vocal performance, American bass Nolan Smith is an aspiring young opera singer. Nolan grew up around music in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, where he sang in the Wilmington Children's Chorus. This past spring, during his first year at the University of Delaware, Nolan performed in his first opera as Private Willis in Gilbert & Sullivan's "Iolanthe." Very soon after that, Nolan traveled to Germany with the Delaware Choral Scholars to compete at the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf and as a part of the International Choral Biennale in Aachen. Last summer, Nolan was a part of the Austrian American Mozart Academy, where he performed the roles of Colas in Mozart's "Bastien und Bastienne," Buffo in "Der Schauspieldirktor," and Sarastro and Sprecher/3rd slave in "Die Zauberflöte." Just recently, Nolan was accepted into the Berlin Opera Academy for the summer of 2026 to play the role of Bartolo in "Le Nozze di Figaro."
